Mr. Owl

This conservation-framing project was done to the customer’s unique specifications. She requested that it have a clean and quiet design. However, this did not mean that we had to attenuate the composition. It still has a nice frame and three different mat layers. The frame has a simple design but has a light and dark brown wood grain pattern incorporated to accent the color of the owl’s feathers. A darker brown top mat was chosen to contrast with the light colored frame and owl feathers. The bottom black mat was placed there to provide a thin line of contrast with the lighter colors and also to put emphasis on the owl’s eyes and where his feet are resting. The reason why the lovely olive green was not placed on top is because it would have detracted all attention from our focal point, the owl. We want to be discrete while emphasizing the most important aspects of the image. So, the eye is now drawn into the owl and his sharp, green eyes.
